Wonder if I'll ever actually use it for real?
So, sixapart have finally got around to linking VOX to Livejournal. It's a shame that the link only seems to be one way, my LJ friends can't comment on my Vox post. Anyone want a Vox invite?
I've just spotted that I can tag a post as 'favorite' (sic) so that I can find it again.
Unfortunately I cannot find the 'favorite' link to find my favourites! How do I get to them?
(Edit: solved, see comment... but I *know* I added a post on another blog as a favourite, but can't see it there, what's going on.)
Why can I never find the link for 'recent activity'?
I want to find it to see the comments I've made ELSEWHERE on the system, and see if there are any replies....
... or would I get an email about these?
I've been playing with Vox for a little while now (okay, this afternoon), and there are a few notes (I'm familiar with MT, WP and LJ)
- I really like the nice interface
- Photo management... good
- Migration sucks, it'd be nice to be able to link to LJ account, I'd see my LJ friends (or better, some custom group of them) in my Vox neighbourhood (automatically updating if they link a Vox account to their LJ account) and they would see my Vox posts as if I'd posted direct to LJ. As it is, the utility of Vox is limited as the community is an anchor to LJ.
- It'd be nice to be able to select amazon.co.uk instead of amazon.com (or better, to have the links direct to the appropriate site for the viewer - e.g. if I click a link to a DVD, I'd rather end up at .co.uk instead of .com)
- For a newbie, the 'compose' isn't immediately obvious.
- It's really bugging me that 'neighborhood' isn't spelt 'neighbourhood'.
- The themes are good, but some customisation would be lovely.
- The editor is great
- The [This is Good] box above a comment form is a mystery to me at the moment
- There is no concept of 'groups' as for LJ, this can be very useful
- The contact defaults of 'friends', 'family' etc are reasonable, but it'd be nice to be able to exclude some logins from this, e.g. everyone except Fred for a post about Fred's surprise party. This is possible with LJ
- The interface and general 'look and feel' are really nice. Oh, I said that.
All things considered, I like Vox and I'll give it a chance, but in order to surpass LJ, (which it does in many areas) a few tweaks are needed. Especially item #3 and #11 (#10 is something I can take or leave, but I can see that this will be a showstopper for some)
